Using binwalk.app (the "site") means you accept the terms and the disclaimer laid out below. If any of it does not sit right with you, the simplest answer is not to use the site.

What you are looking at

binwalk.app is an independent, hobby-run site. Its whole job is to help you download Binwalk and understand how to use it well. We do not publish a custom build, wrap the software in our own installer, or tack anything on - the download points to the original, official release.

Who we are not

We have no official tie to ReFirm Labs, the Binwalk project, or the maintainers who develop it. Every name, logo and trademark stays the property of its owner; we use them only to describe what the software does and what works with what.

Provided "as is"

Binwalk is independent, open-source software released under the MIT License. It and everything written on this site come "as is", with no warranty of any kind, whether stated outright or implied, including any implied promise that it is fit for a particular purpose. Installing it and following any guide here is something you do at your own risk. The software's authors and contributors take no responsibility for damage, loss or incompatibility that may follow from installing or running it.

Use it lawfully and with authorization

Binwalk is a tool for analyzing firmware and binary data. Analyze only firmware, devices and systems that you own or are explicitly authorized to test, and treat extracted scripts, executables and file systems as potentially hostile - keep that work isolated and never run recovered code directly on a workstation. Using the software against systems you do not have permission to examine may be unlawful, and that is entirely your responsibility.

Where our liability ends

So far as the law allows, neither binwalk.app nor the people behind it are liable for any loss or damage - direct or indirect, incidental or consequential, including lost data, a misbehaving system or downtime - that arises from using this site, the software, or anything we link to.

Outbound links and downloads

We point to third-party sites and hosts such as GitHub that are outside our control. Their content, policies and uptime are their own affair, not ours. The moment you leave binwalk.app, that destination's terms and privacy policy take over.

Advertising

The lights here are kept on by third-party advertising, Google AdSense among it. Those ads may rely on cookies and similar technology, as covered in our Privacy Policy. We do not vet or endorse the ads themselves or whatever they are selling.

Playing fair

Please do not try to break, overload or abusively scrape the site, and do not use it for anything unlawful. The writing here is for your information - by all means learn from it, but do not lift it and pass it off as your own.

Edits to these terms

These terms may be revised now and then. A change takes effect as soon as it is posted here with an updated "Last updated" date, and continuing to use the site counts as accepting it.
